During the Yellow Truck days, Scarborough Fire had During the Yellow Truck days, Scarborough Fire had the most unique colourization of fire apparatus in the Metro Toronto area. SFD ran yellow fire apparatus from the early 1970s until the late 1980’s when trucks started coming in the new Red bodies with white over red cabs. This 1984 Mack Thibault mid mount Aerial #3 ran out of Hall 3 on Warden just south of Eglinton. Now Toronto Fire Services Station 222.

Lest we forget. Thank you to all those who served Lest we forget. Thank you to all those who served and sacrificed, and to those who do so now. Words can never describe the gratitude we owe, but it means the world to those of us to enjoy our freedoms now.

“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Sacred heard amid the guns below

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.”
John McCrae

Today marks the 76th Anniversary of one of the wor Today marks the 76th Anniversary of one of the worst naval tragedies in Canadian History. The SS Noronic, a Canadian passenger ship known as the “Queen of the Lakes,” caught fire and sank in Toronto Harbour on September 17, 1949. The fire started around 2:30 am in a linen closet on C Deck. Although crew members attempted to put out the fire, it quickly spread throughout the ship, fuelled by the lemon-oil-polished wood paneling that lined the ship’s interior.
The fire resulted in 119 deaths, all of whom were passengers. Contributing factors to the fire included the lack of working fire hoses, the crew’s inadequate fire training, and the ship’s design, which featured exits on only one deck. The disaster led to the implementation of more stringent safety regulations for ships on the Great Lakes.
